In the early part of the 20th century, the community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma was known as "Black Wall Street." This community was given this name because it had a thriving business district featuring African-American owned businesses and had a strong middle and upper class. In the spring of 1921, this community was destroyed during the Tulsa race riots. Though this community was destroyed over 90 years ago, there are many lessons learned around entrepreneurship and wealth building that can be used today, and thus this year's NULYP National Day of Empowerment is The New Black Wall Street: Learning from the past, building a legacy for the future
