Join Week (Day 1): "Beyond the Ballot”: Political Advocacy Workshop

There will be three training sessions during the workshop:The Beyond the Ballot: Political Advocacy Workshop is an Interactive Advocacy Training in which members of the community will learn who the state and local elected/appointed officials and candidates are, when local elections are held, how policy decisions are made, and what role citizens can play in the rulemaking and legislative process. 

1. Session One: Explanation of Elected/Appointed/Prospective Officials and Election Process

2. Session Two: How Policy Decisions are Made and Effective Advocacy
   

3. General Session: Role Citizens Play in Rulemaking Process (four pillars of jobs, education, housing, and health)

The Political Advocacy Workshop also includes a Community Engagement Expo for members of the community to learn about the various commissions, committees, and community organizations they can participate with to further engage in local advocacy.

Food Drive (January 5, 2017- February 4, 2017)

Join YPN's food drive for Arlington Food Assistance Center's (AFAC) backpack buddies program which provides weekend and holiday meal packs to homeless and food-insecure Arlington County school-aged children. Unfortunately for many local youth, school meals are the only nourishment they receive daily, so on weekends and over long holidays, the children often go without any food at all.  That fact is why this food drive is so important to YPN!  Will you donate and help us collect these very important meals? We will be collecting three items to contribute. These items will be paired with other foods in the backpacks and there will be enough food in each pack to feed each child for two days (six meals, plus snacks).

Grocery store, target, Sam's, Costco, Online- amazon, etc.  Items can be bought individually or in packs.
