13th Annual National Urban League Legislative Policy Conference (LPC).  This year's LPC continues our theme of, "Save Our Cities: Education, Jobs and Justice."  This theme continues to build on the historic work of the National Urban League, was the central part of the "Domestic Marshal Plan" formulated by Whitney M. Young, Jr. and continues to guide our work today.  The LPC will feature a new line-up this year and promises to offer some new excitement.

Tuesday, May 17th
The LPC kicks off on the afternoon of May 17th with the release of the Statue of Black America (SOBA).  This year marks the 40th Anniversary of SOBA.  It will feature the National Equality Index, the Equality Index Rankings as well as articles and essays from a wild range of prominent authors and contributors.  There is no doubt that the 40th Edition of SOBA will be the most comprehensive to date.  After the release, there will be a reception where we will highlight affiliate leaders who have worked tirelessly and successfully in the legislative arena this year.

Wednesday, May 18th
On Wednesday May 18th, we will begin the day with our signature "Salute to the Congressional Black Caucus Breakfast."  Thereafter, we will receive a briefing on the upcoming Congressional races highlighting the key races to watch.  This will give you an up-to-date political landscape of Congress before going to the Hill to advocate.  There will also be some educational (and entertaining) trainings on advocacy and task force meetings.  Lunch will be held in the historic Caucus Room in the Russell Senate Office Building and will feature Congressional leaders from both chambers and both sides of the political aisle.  In the afternoon, we will move to the White House South Court Auditorium for our annual agency programming.  We will hear from our traditional partnering agencies as well as from some new ones.  Our evening will end with our Congressional Leadership Awards reception where we will honor our Congressional champions.

Thursday, May 19th
Our final day will begin with our Closing Breakfast and Briefing and then you will proceed to your Capitol Hill meetings with your Senators and Representatives and/or their staffs.  This is an election year for 1/3 of the Senate and every member of the House so this year is a unique opportunity to express both our national and local legislative priorities.
