The National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) chapters nationwide will engage in a celebration of membership called Join Week from January 17-23, 2016. The theme of Join Week 2016 is: The Movement Starts With You. We have week of fun and exciting events. Please come out and join the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network. Meet our current members and learn how you can get involved in the Urban League movement. Bring a friend to join with you.

Praise & Graze (Personal and Professional Development/ Social)

Please join us for worship at Mount Zion Baptist Church in the morning followed by an NFL Watch Party at Mad Rose Tavern in the afternoon. We promise and inspirational and action-packed Sunday!!   

Place of Worship: (meet at 9:45am)

We will meet in the Lobby at 9:45am for the 10:00am service. Please wear red accents, so that we can find you. If you are a YPN member, please wear your pin.

2016 NFL Playoffs: The road to Super Bowl 50 continues with the AFC and NFC Divisional Rounds.  Join us for a double header at Mad Rose Tavern as we eat, socialize and watch some football. Wear you team jerseys and get ready to cheer your favorite team on.  Are you ready for some Football??

NFC Divisional Round Game 2: Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers, 1:05 p.m.
AFC Divisional Round Game 2: Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos, 4:40 p.m.

Unlocking Literacy Book Drive to benefit Fairfax Co. Jail (Community Service/Political Engagement)

Location: Northern Virginia Urban League Headquarters/ Freedom House 1315 Duke Street, Alexandria VA 22314

Join us as we celebrate literacy and diversity by collecting books to benefit the fairfax County Jail library. The library currently has a shortage of literature that reflects minority cultures perspectives and authors. Help us collect books: In new and slightly-used condition; By minority authors; on african-american history/perspective, arts, fiction, classics, best-sellers, etc; with minimal violence and sexual content.  Drop-off hours: 11:00-3:00pm.

Day on the Hill (Political Engagement)

For day 2 of Join Week, join delegations from Virginia's three Affiliate's for the 5th Annual YP Day on the Hill.
-Meet Young Professionals from across Virginia
-Learn about Gubernatorial appointments  
-Engage legislators on issues that matter to YOU!
-Tour the Virginia State Capitol, Executive Mansion, and more!

YPN Supports: "Restoration of Rights for Returning Citizens, Looking at Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" (Political Engagement/ Community Service)

Location: Drew Model Elementary School and Community Center located at 3500 23rd St S, Arlington, VA 22206

Restoring voting rights for returning citizens is one of many top policy priorities for the National Urban League and the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network remains vigilante in the enforcement of such. Please join YPN and community organizations and thought leaders as we continue the discussion on an issue that affects so many of our family, friends and communities here in Northern Virginia.

Film Screening: Seeking Asylum (Political Engagement/Social)

Location: Alexandria Black History Museum- 902 Wythe St, Alexandria, VA 22314

Film viewing and panel discussion.  Purpose of the discussion is to continue the conversation about race relations, equality, revolution, the mattering of lives, and so much more.

Saturday, January 18 (9:30am-2:00pm)

Movement with a View (Hike + Brunch) (Health and Wellness/ Social/Personal and Professional Development)

Location: Meet at Gravelly Point (Arlington, VA), George Washington Parkway, next to Reagan Airport

Let's go on a hike!  We will meet along the Mount Vernon trail and go on a YP hike along the Mount Vernon trail and take in the beautiful sites.  Afterwards, we will all meet to eat brunch at Indigo Landing.  Free event.  Dress warm and wear red/black and bring your water bottle.
